...Todd Michael Roberts who entered the world at 3:53pm on Friday, April 11th, 2008. Todd weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20.25 inches long.On Friday morning, I went to my scheduled 39 week Dr. visit to find out my blood pressure was elevated. I was sent to the hospital for another blood pressure check and some labs. Upon arriving at the hospital I was told they were going to induce me, which I adamantly did not want. Upon hooking me up to all the monitors though we realized that I was actually almost 4 cm dilated and having fairly regular contractions
which I just wasn't feeling. Aware of my previously fast labor and my elevated blood pressure, the Dr. decided to keep me at the hospital, break my water, and get labor really going. Obviously the good Lord was taking care of us because I ended up going from 5 cm dilated to fully dilated in a time span of 30 minutes. I could have been in real trouble had I not had an appointment with the Dr. that day and thankfully Brian was there in plenty of time after driving back from Tampa. We are "almost" all home from the hospital as Hayley will return from her stay with Nana and Papa later this afternoon. She did visit us in the hospital and say "baby" while pointing at Todd, but then went back to running around like a wild woman so it will be interesting to see her reaction to our new, permanent family member. Obviously we are proud parents and in complete adoration of our new little boy. So far he has been the complete opposite of Hayley as a newborn. He sleeps, rarely fusses, and is content being held. We aren't quite holding our breaths, but do have some hope that he may be "laid back." Oh, and he has hair! A reward for all that indigestion I had to put up with!
Obviously more updates and pictures will be forthcoming!

CONGRATULATIONS, you guys!!! He's absolutely adorable! And what a great name. Oh, I'm so happy for you!
I'd get on to you for not letting us know labor had started (so that we could quit obsessively checking your blog), but after reading the story, I see you didn't quite get the chance! I'll try not to be too jealous of you "30-minutes-from 5 cm-to-completely-dilated" types. I just can't relate, but good for you! (I think? Or is the pain worse that way because it's so sudden?)
At any rate, I'm sure you won't have much time to blog, but I can't wait to see and hear more about him and your family of four!
Thanks Steph! You'd think a fast labor sounds wonderful, and I think for the most part it is, but the pain does escalate very, very quickly. It went from "I'm okay, doing well" to if "I don't get my epidural this second I'm seriously going to pass out." I kept holding off on the epidural and once again got it right before it was time to push. Amazing how over time you forget how painful contractions are!
Anyhow, what surprised me is a lot of the nurses told me I may have a little bit harder recovery and be more sore because labor was so fast. I guess maybe such sudden changes to your body really throw things out of kilter. So it's nice to get the actual labor over quickly, but there are side effects! :-)
Congratulations! He is soooo handsome. From the pics he looks alot like Brian. I am so happy for you all. I know you are on cloud nine. I can't wait to see more pictures as time goes on. I really enjoy reading your blog. You are a great writer, Shelley.
