Hayley is 1 Month Old!

So today is Hayley's one month birthday! Brian and I can hardly believe that it's been only 4 short weeks since we last slept! :) Many of our friends told us to enjoy sleeping while we could, that the first few weeks are all about survival. Little did we believe how true those words would be!

So the Amazing Miracle Blanket truly is "amazing," but I'm not sure it has worked a miracle on our grumpy little girl. It has helped in the fact that we now have a swaddle that she can't break out of, but unfortunately she is still fussy... even more fussy then before the blanket. Don't get me wrong because she does enjoy her blanket... she can be in an all out rage and once we get her wrapped up she stops wailing (for about 10 seconds) and gives us some relief. I guess it was too much to expect a blanket to turn my grouchy baby into a happy one! Right now the only way we are getting Hayley "soothed" to sleep is to wrap her up (I call her my baby burrito) and turn on the vacuum. And no, not just any vacuum will do... it must be the Bissell. She also generally requires me to pace back and forth through the house or bounce up and down on the exercise ball. I've begged and pleaded with her to just let me sit and rock her, but she rarely gives in to my pleas.

So now that I have joined the sisterhood, I have a new found respect for woman who have and have raised fussy/colicky babies. It really is a test of patience and it definitely is a struggle. The past few days have been tough as I've had to realize that the idea I had painted in my mind for the past 9 months of this wonderful, happy time with my new happy baby aren't going to be my reality. It's frustrating to be giving everything you have to this little creature that does nothing but scream at you. And yes, these pictures are deceiving... they were taken during the 5 minutes of contentment that we get each day.

We will be going to the Pediatrician next week and look forward to getting his take on all this. Brian was a colicky baby and I know they say it isn't hereditary, BUT you can guess who I'm going to blame for this unfortunate characteristic. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, right Daddy?

Yeah, the one month mark! Time really flys! I have heard people putting their colicky babies on the dryer too. Kaitlyn wasn't colicky, but she had her moments, a couple of them. One thing that worked with Kaitlyn was a little soothing womb sound maker. She loved that sound and there was a little light with it that turned on. This clipped on her crib and we used it every time she was going to sleep or to try and soothe her.

I'm so sorry, Shelley. You're right, it's very discouraging (especially when you're sleep-deprived) to have it feel like everything you're doing is for naught. But I assure you, happy days are ahead! Bear through all this, love on her like you already are, and look forward to a few months down the road when she'll have better things to do than keep you glued to the exercise ball!

Yes, we have a "woomba" as we call it. We actually made a cd of the womb sound and keep it on all night long. I hope Brian and I will be able to sleep without it someday! Hayley gets herself so worked up that she can't hear the "woomba." I think she doesn't want to bare any responsibility for me not loosing my pregnancy weight!
